Agrawals Participate in the India’s Millennium Republic
Day Parade
On January 27th, 2001, almost 15,000 Americans of
Indian origin in the Houston celebrated the India’s Millennium
Republic Day in downtown at the George R. Brown Convention
center. Various communities from Houston had their own
floats.
The float of the Agrawal Association of America was
very well received. It included Maharaja Agrasen seated on a
chair on the float with boys and girls dancing, ladies singing
music with "dolki" and 18 men representing 18 gotras
surrounding the float. The weather was perfect.
The Millennium procession included various dignitaries
including Mayor of Houston, Mr. Lee Brown; Congresswoman Sheila
Jackson, US Rep. Nick Lampson, Mr. Rinzing Wangdi, the Consul
General of India; Indian actor and singer, Mr. Sonu Nigam;
Indian Tennis star player, movie actor, producer and director,
Vijay Amritraj.
